Veterinary Nurse Training

All four of our branches are registered Veterinary Nurse training practices. At Swayne and partners we require our students to work towards and obtain the animal nursing assistant qualification before embarking on the veterinary nurse course. The animal nursing assistant course or ‘ANA’ is a correspondence course with module and final examinations and usually takes up to one year. As well as providing time to build upon skills required in practice this qualification allows the student to build a good foundation of knowledge in preparation for veterinary nurse training. It also provides the student the opportunity to ensure that they have chosen the correct career path.

Gaining a qualification in veterinary nursing can be achieved in a variety of ways. Further information can be gained from www.bvna.org.uk or www.rcvs.org.uk/vetnurses

In practice, veterinary nurse training is quite intensive and takes a minimum of three years. Trainees are required to attend college on a day release basis and it is also necessary to undertake several hours of private study each week in support of both college and employment led tuition. Trainees are continuously assessed at work and will be required to undertake external exams at the end of both first and second years.

A veterinary nurse works as a member of the veterinary team, providing expert nursing care for sick animals, they are skilled in undertaking a range of diagnostic tests, administering medical treatments and also play a significant role in advising owners about maintaining the health of their pets.

If you are interested in joining any of our teams or would like to be considered for any future vacancies please email all enquiries to enquiries@swayneandpartners.co.uk with a current CV. We will contact you should a suitable position arise.
